Board of Investment (BoI) invites Chinese to invest in farm sector

The Sichuan province of China has shown interest in cooperation with Pakistan in infrastructure, information technology and textile sectors.

A 12-member delegation of Sichuan province led by Vice Governor Huang Xiaxiang held a meeting with Minister of State and chairman of Board of Investment Saleem H Mandviwala in Islamabad on Monday.

Sichuan is historically known as the ‘province of abundance’ with agriculture as the major production base of China. The province has been progressing at annual GDP of 12 per cent as compared to GDP of 14.5 per cent last year.

It has rich mineral resources with more than 132 kinds of proven mineral resources.

The BoI chairman offered the Chinese delegation to make investment in agriculture and agro-based sector as this sector needs value-addition.

He informed the delegation that the investment policy allows 100 per cent foreign equity in the major sectors and full repatriation of profits and dividends.

The Chinese vice-governor offered a free space to Pakistan at the 11th Western China International Economy and Trade fair to be held in Chengdu city from Oct 16 to 20.

He further offered free display space for Sino-Pak Investment fair saying that it would be an excellent opportunity for matchmaking between Pakistani and Chinese businessmen.

Later, the delegation discussed with the members of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry possibilities to further enhance trade and investment with Pakistan, especially in agriculture, manufacturing and energy sectors.

Addressing the business community Huang Xiaoxiang said that Pakistan and China enjoyed all weather and infinite friendship and China is always keen to widen its relations with Pakistan in all areas, particularly in economic sphere.
