The Internet economy grew 30.7% to ¥74.3 billion ($1 = ¥6.83) in 2009; the growth was slower than the 52.6% for 2008, an iResearch report has found. Struggling online ads, B2B ecommerce and the online job market hit hard by the global meltdown during the first quarter of 2009 weighed on the sector to outperform the previous year, whereas turnovers of online billing and online shopping rocketed 110.2% and 93.7% last year bolstered growth with almost four times the rate for the entire sector, the report added. The nation's Internet economy will be worth ¥112.3 billion this year and ¥273.4 billion by 2013, the report predicted.
